They’re simple, dependable classes — most everyone will go with the Knight. This isn’t news to players that have been around since the beginning — but for everyone picking up a PS5, you just might want to pick this particular class. For several years now, it has been a mystery what Bluepoint Games, the studio behind several remakes including Shadow of the Colossus, is working on.
The haptic feedback by itself makes a ton of difference, enhancing every hit and blocked attack, and the brilliant 3D audio design brings Boletaria to life like never before. The 3D audio, the cutting-edge graphics, and the haptic feedback all come together to make these moments hit harder than was ever possible on older hardware. [newline]Previously Bluepoint called this project a “Re-Envisioning” which led most to believe it was remaster, however the Youtube video trailer confirms this indeed is a remake and not a remaster. This is likely a welcome change as telling whether you were in pure black or just before it could be challenging back in the original, but for many the UI may feel somewhat off. It’s hard to describe, but the “You Died” screens are missing “something” and the overall UI seems too clean and lacking the “grunge” look we have come to expect from souls games. On the flip side, other players can invade your game as phantoms, enabling a PvP element and ratcheting up the difficulty another notch. Although, again, beating an invader inspires such a feeling of achievement and mastery it’s at least equivalent to beating one of the game’s infamously challenging bosses. There are multiple different types of weapons, and the ability to hold swords double-handed, but the nuance of the combat is not in the controls but in how you approach the game and its enemies. Most of how you play the game is dictated by a stamina meter that determines how much you can run, swing your sword, or block incoming blows.
The ten-year-old title has been completely remade with an impressive visual upgrade, which definitely helps to revitalize the original Souls game so that it can appeal to the modern generation of players. Although the original reveal did not emphasize any major gameplay differences from the initial release apart from the complete graphical overhaul, Demon’s Souls practically looks like a brand new adventure. Like other Piercing weapons, this sword scales with your Dexterity, making it an effective choice for character builds that focus on a weapon’s finesse. In combat, this massive blade feels like an unusual mix of slashing, thrusting, and polearm weapons, so you should make sure to familiarize yourself with its diverse attacks before running headlong into a horde of demons.
First of all, if this is your first play through of Demon’s Souls, don’t be surprised if the first big boss you encounter, the Vanguard Demon, one-hit kills you. But once you awaken in the Nexus and meet your fellow comrades trapped in there with you, you’ll want to head to the leftmost archstone, Boletarian Palace (aka 1-1). Once you defeat the big slimy demon there, Phalanx, you’ll get access to the rest of the archstones.
On your right, there is a closed door and on your left a small staircase. You will find a Boletaria Soldier over a wood structure wielding a crossbow, and two more Dreglings on the ground. TG88 of the gap on the floor, because falling there will automatically kill you. Go to your left and you will find another corpse, there you can obtain an Unknown Warrior Soul. Pure Black World Tendency or Pure White World Tendency required. In the same pit, on one of the beams, is a Colorless Demon’s Soul, don’t miss it!

This weapon also gives you slightly more protection against fire damage, making it almost like another piece of armor. This will help you make it through certain levels with a lot of enemies that use fire, such as the Flamelurker boss encountered in the game.

While many combat encounters with Major Demons are white-knuckle, hand-to-hand brawls, you’ll occasionally encounter giant bosses that seem impossible to take down based on your current equipment. Demon’s Souls has a number of “puzzle bosses,” where you’ll need to find an object in the world to defeat a Major Demon.
